Penguin Boxes For Cute Little Blue Penguins

Check out our Gisborne Herald article about our penguin boxes here

Our Inquiry Topic is: Actions Speak Louder Than Words
This term we made little blue penguin boxes. We wanted to help little blue penguins breed.
We did this because we wanted to help them by giving them new homes.
We placed our penguin boxes. We did this along the coastline of Wainui.
To monitor our penguin boxes we made a google map. A google map of Wainui with our penguin box locations
Nga Manu Waiata will further support us by setting traps by the penguin boxes

Stingray Feeding

Robbie

Stingray Feeding
On Tuesday 27th  March Room 5 went stingray feeding. Nic sorted me into a car I went with Cash. At Dive Tatapouri Stingray Feeding  we had to put on something called waders. Then we sat on a rope covered in sand in the ground the waders felt funny. Stingray feeding firstley alex told/showed and explained to us the stingray which were eagle ray and short tailed ray. I could also see stingray flapping their wings then he took us tour in the water I felt excited and nervous.

After that Room 5 had to slide into the water because we could NOT! step on Stingray ore Kingfish.  We keep on sliding until we stopped and alex brought a                                                    stingray. Over it was a eagle ray I was like “I have never seen an eagle ray” it was exciting and awesome but smells bad. Alex said that he would let the 2 eagle ray swim up and down the single file line. I was so happy that the stingray felt like seaweed on sea rocks. Then alex brought tara a shorttailedray with growing barbs she was friendly and felt like the same as eagle ray. She was a lot bigger and swam up and down. Then kingfish came along and bit tristins hand! He said it sting like he fell on concrete.

And then next we were allowed to feed the kinges we got a piece of fish and held it and I was the first to feed the kingfish it was scary then alex said that he had a special trick he put it in his mouth and feed the kings. Then we took the waders of and had brain break and went back to school.
